B. Upgrade the Database of Oracle EBS

1. Check Prerequisites

  • Compatibility

If the database still using original DB (EBS 11.5.9 using Oracle DB 9i) then we need to upgrade it first. Check the compatibility matrix on NOTE: 316889.1, which path that we must take. Minimum Version of the database that can be directly upgraded to Oracle 10g Release 2 -> 10.2.X.X.X or -> 10.2.X.X.X or higher -> 10.2.X.X.X or higher -> 10.2.X.X.X

The following database version will require an indirect upgrade path.

      7.3.3 (or lower) -> 7.3.4 -> 8.1.7 -> -> 10.2.X.X.X
      7.3.4 -> 8.1.7 -> -> 10.2.X.X.X
      8.0.n -> 8.1.7 -> -> 10.2.X.X.X
      8.1.n -> 8.1.7 -> -> 10.2.X.X.X Continue reading »

Sometime we got difficulties to get actual result of the explain plan when we want to see the cost of the query that we made since the number of records in the development server have significant differential with production server. To solve this problem we can transfer the Optimizer Statistics from Production server to Development Server.

Other concern why we need to transfer the Optimizer Statistics, because it will take long time to gather a big schema instead to transfer the Optimizer Statistics.

This is the Step-By-Step to transfering the Optimizer Statistics, Good Luck ;) Continue reading »

Sometime we have frustrated to kill the running Job in Oracle even though we already kill him from OS but the job still running. Using this step could kill your stress, I mean your running Job. Good Luck – ;)

1. Check the running Job (From here you will get the SID that running the Job)

APPLICATION PARTIONING on Oracle E-Business Suite 11i

Not only the database needs to be partitioning to separate the data, we can also partitioning the applications. Why we need partitioning the applications? There are some reason if we talking about this topic, i.e.: Continue reading »

First concern when we need to migrate our EBS is because the End Of Support of our HP Servers, the cost for extension maintenance support is very high if we still use the old servers. It will be as same as we buy new server with 3 years warranty include.
There are many ways to do the migration :

  • If we don’t want to upgrade the original DB (EBS 11.5.9 using Oracle DB 9i)
    • Export-Import
    • Using CDC (Change Data Capture) tools
  • If we plan to upgrade to 10gR2 (
    • Export-Import
    • Convert Database (if migrate to the platform with same Endian)
    • Convert Tablespace (if migrate to the platform with different Endian)

In this document, I just discuss how to Migrate Application and Database using Convert Database options.
I will separate the process migration EBS 11.5.9 from HP-UX 11.11 to SUN Solaris 10 into 2 phase. The first phase, we can call the preparation phase. At this phase we upgrade the applications and database. This phase could be reference if we want Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.9 with Oracle Database 10g. You can review NOTE 369693.1.

The second phase we will discuss the process migration from current platform (HP-UX) into new platform (SUN Solaris). Let’s get rock…. ;)

            - “OracleOciLib”=”oci.dll

  • Restart Server dimana SQL  Server terinstall
  • Create Connection to Oracle Server using ODBC, Continue reading »

In our finance database (Oracle EBS 11.5.9), I found there is a big snapshot log. I found AP.MLOG$_AP_INVOICE_DISTRIBUT has size more than 21 GB and still growing. The size of the tablespace APD is 26 GB, so that snapshot log has consume more than 80% of tablespace APD.

First of all, I analyze which is the master table that used this snapshot log.

SELECT MASTER, log_table, snapshot_id

  FROM dba_snapshot_logs

To get to single user mode, if you’re using LILO, type:

        linux single

at the boot prompt and hit ENTER.

If you’re using GRUB, hit ENTER at the countdown screen (booting kernel-whatever in 10 seconds…), select your kernel from the menu (the line that starts with “kernel”) and hit e. At the end of the line, add:

Our company runs Oracle E Business Suite 11.5.9 and 11.5.10, mostly application and database server running 24×7 to support production. We have own development team to enhance our applications regarding the user needs. And sometime our development team needs to refresh development server with current data and applications from production server. But we don’t have enough time to cloning applications and database if we have to shut it down first. To solve this problem, we have a solution to “On-line” cloning application and database from production into development. Some of these steps can be found on Note: 230672.1. Continue reading »
